WHAT WILL YOU TAKE AWAY FROM AN AGM/WORKSHOP WEEKEND?

Towards the end of our great AGM/Workshop weekend everyone was asked to write down one or more things they would take away from the weekend. Here they are - in no particluar order.
  • The process of interps development can be just as important as the outcome.oli
  • Building relationships with iwi
  • Renewed enthusiasm and energy for my current iwi projects and reinforcement that we are working in the “right” ways.
  • KISS—simplicity rules
  • PARTNERSHIP—talk early and honestly
  • The beauty of guided walks is learning can be 2 way guideßàvisitors
  • Enjoyed meeting you all
  • Use such [Maori] images only if shared with you by takata whenua. They’re not common property!
  • Don’t stick to the easy path.  Look, listen, and only then talk!
  • Thinking about the process of working with iwi
  • Thinking about how to make it fun—not everything needs to be taken seriously
  • Inspired by people.  Feel privileged to be part of this!
  • Keep the fire warm, start iwi consultation, keep it going, fun with digital, learn more…
  • Media options for small spaces
  • Appropriate and meaningful consultation processes
  • Have fun and add humour
  • Titi tastes delicious
  • Rethinking a concept—majorly
  • Connections!
  • Appreciation for unique and unusual challengescave
  • Encouragement to keep risking and trying
  • Great ideas for new projects and solutions
  • Productive conversations and relationships established
  • The rock art was a revelation.
  • Learnt? Take time. Speak to the right people.
  • Understanding that I’m not alone in terms of making mistakes re: cultural consultation
  • Catching up with people and projects.
  • Put the visitor first—understand who you are telling the story to.
  • Keep it simple.
  • Greater knowledge of our original art galleries and their uniqueness.
  • The increasing role of digital media in interpretation.
  • Working with iwi in partnership.
  • Maybe use our museum to host Pechakucha sessions so I can steal lots of great ideas.
  • Develop a clear programme before embarking on a Facebook campaign
  • Keep growing in our relationships with iwi (and everyone else).
